In wildlife photography - Nothing rocks more than this roller with it's dazzling colors and intricate feather patterns.
I had an opportunity on a few occasions to click this beauty at very close quarters and got some 'count my feathers' shots like this one!

This birds mostly sits on wires and swoops down to catch insects and flies low near ground. The flash of blue on it's wings can be seen from afar. It is all together another matter to capture a picture as it flies, twists and turns. I managed to get this picture as it flew in a ditch..

Once it was raining heavily and I had given up all hopes of finding any wildlife. As I almost packed away my camera, I found this roller perched on a small twig... Usually it is always on telephone wires or top of some poles or on tall shrubs. I guess it was hanging low because of the rain and wind. I could take a nice picture with raindrops in background...

On another occasion, I saw a roller sitting on a fence pole and could sneak up quite close to it because of some grass cover around the fence. The bird kept sitting there as I crept closer and I could get this shot..

The best shot I like is of course of the roller sitting on a small shrub (a natural perch instead of man made ones like poles). I was roaming around in my car in a grassy patch of land on outskirts of the city. I was mainly looking for harriers but as luck would have it, I found ZERO harriers that day. However, I did find this roller, sitting exactly at eye level as I sat in my car. I maneuvered closer inch by inch and took this shot..

Usually, in wildlife photography, the fun is more in tracking and clicking the subject than the beauty of the subject itself. However, for this particular bird, the beauty of it's colors and feathers makes it all the fun to click it
