When Matanzas Falls Into Darkness | Cuando Matanzas cae en la oscuridad
Hello, friends of the Visual Shots community. Today I want to share a few photographs I took from the balcony of my apartment, looking toward the bay of Matanzas as the evening slowly arrived.

There is something special about watching a city change as daylight disappears. From up here, I can see a large part of the bay and, on a normal evening, the city lights gradually begin to appear on the other side. This time, however, the scene was very different.
Hay algo especial en observar cómo cambia una ciudad mientras desaparece la luz del día. Desde aquí puedo ver una buena parte de la bahía y, en una tarde normal, poco a poco comienzan a aparecer las luces de la ciudad al otro lado. Esta vez, sin embargo, la escena era muy diferente.
An outage had left much of Matanzas in almost complete darkness. As the last natural light faded from the sky, the buildings and streets that usually give the city its familiar appearance began to disappear into the shadows. The bay remained there, quietly reflecting what little light was still left in the evening.
Un apagón había dejado a buena parte de Matanzas prácticamente a oscuras. A medida que la última luz natural desaparecía del cielo, los edificios y las calles que normalmente le dan a la ciudad su aspecto habitual comenzaron a perderse entre las sombras. I stood for a while simply looking at the view. From the balcony, the darkness made some details harder to see, but it also changed the way I looked at the landscape. The familiar city suddenly seemed much quieter and more distant, while the sky and the water became the brightest parts of the scene.

I took out my mobile phone and tried to capture that moment before the remaining daylight disappeared completely. These photographs are not just about the bay; they are also a small record of what Matanzas can look like when the lights of the city go out and night arrives without them.
Saqué mi móvil e intenté captar ese momento antes de que desapareciera por completo la luz que quedaba. Estas fotografías no muestran solamente la bahía; también son un pequeño registro de cómo puede verse Matanzas cuando las luces de la ciudad se apagan y la noche llega sin ellas.
Perhaps what I like most about these images is the contrast between the natural light that was still present and the darkness spreading across the city. For a few minutes, there was a different kind of landscape in front of me, one that I would probably not have photographed in quite the same way on an ordinary evening.
Quizás lo que más me gusta de estas imágenes es el contraste entre la luz natural que todavía quedaba y la oscuridad que se extendía sobre la ciudad. Durante unos minutos tuve delante un paisaje diferente, uno que probablemente no habría fotografiado de la misma manera en una tarde cualquiera.
