Today I want to tell you about my walk in the town of Tryavna. It is said that the city itself is a museum. Because to this day it has preserved the spirit of architecture, iconography, woodcarving and numerous ancient houses, and in general everything is in the Revival style.
The city is not big, at least in the part with the center. Where most of the tourist destinations are also located. I think it will take about two to three hours to see each of them. Like them are the Daskalov House, which houses the Museum of Carving Art on the first floor. Which I will show you in this post. And also the museum of "Tryavna Icon Painting School", the Clock Tower in the center, "Nightingale House", "Paradise House", and the church "St. Archangel Michael ”
A river passes through the town, which we cross through a beautiful bridge in the left part of which takes us right in the center. Nearby are shops that you can buy a souvenir at very budget prices. Fees for museums are about 2 euros / per adult and free for children up to seven years old, and free for people with disabilities. The museums will greet you with a smile and show you around, so if you visit the city really, the time spent will be worth it.
Next to the right as we go back on the bridge is a section with souvenir shops, there is also a grill and cafes. And ahead are the museums in the deaf streets of the city.
We toured the center and then headed to the Teacher's House. It is a house-museum on two floors and in it we saw icon painting, woodcarving and wooden figures of all Bulgarian kings and khans. As well as historical and cultural objects of everyday life. Extremely exciting for me.
In these rooms are restored very precisely the look of a typical Bulgarian country house, with objects, tables, goods, low fireplaces that are open. Copper vessels, windows and curtains. Also, if you have read my previous posts, you may have noticed a part in which I told you about hand-woven colorful rugs and carpets. This is what they represent. In some cases they are for traps and embroidery, images of villages, rivers and landscapes on the walls, but this is another kind of art and tradition. They are even rarer today. Even in the past it was believed that every girl should be able to sew, even in secret it was a shame for a girl if she can not. The tradition was passed down from mother to daughter, grandmother to granddaughter.
Two of the ceilings are carved. There was a competition between two newlyweds from the village who will finish his work first and better. This is how the "May sun" created in 1808 was born and completed.
Typical men's clothing in the past. Similar are worn for wedding, engagement and holiday. In women, the noses were with buckles in the middle of the waist. The buckle is something like a modern belt / jewel made of gold or silver, sometimes metal. They showed whether the girl was married, engaged and had children. Special jewelry was used for the wedding. Some of them I will show you in pictures.

This was part of everyday life, now I want to show you the woodcarving.
Years and what life was like in Bulgaria before the war in Europe are inscribed in this detailed woodcarving. How it affected the lives of ordinary people, and how sad it was to kill young souls. It is also written what a joy it was when it was all over and how meaningless every war is, regardless of its goals and motives.
On these wooden portraits of Bulgarian awakeners, freedom fighters gave their lives for Bulgaria to be a Christian free state. A tribute to their memory.
Wooden figures have ruled kings in different periods.
And finally, a translation of what was written on the stone. "A nation that does not remember its history is lost"
