Finally, after a long queue at the online library, I was able to borrow a book from Tanah Lada karta Ziggy Z, the second winner of the 2014 Jakarta Arts Council competition. This book has finally expanded its copy so I can borrow it. Shortly after being able to read it for free on a legal site, I immediately read it and found that this book is truly worthy of being a winner.

Di Tanah Lada

Di Tanah Lada tells the story of Salva, a six year old little girl who has an evil father. Her mother is very good, but her father is the opposite. There is no clear reason why Papa Salva hates him. Luckily, Salva had Grandpa Kia, who gave him an Indonesian dictionary. Ava—Salva's nickname, carried the dictionary everywhere. If he didn't understand a word, he would look it up in the dictionary. Ava has become fluent in Indonesian, and the language she speaks is formal.

But since Grandpa Kia left, Ava's life got worse. Her father took them to a slum where Ava was not allowed to sleep on a bed. There, Ava's father would be busy gambling because it was close to a gambling den. In that new residence, Ava met a boy named P. Yes, his name was just P. He always carried a guitar, but not for busking. P just liked playing the guitar. From there, they became friends and Ava learned that Papa P was also evil. Even though P didn't have a mother, P had Kak Suri and Mas Alri who were always kind to him.

My Thought

I read this book in just two days because the loan period from the online library was very short. Then, I easily finished it because of Ziggy's engaging storytelling.

What made this book a bestseller was its unique perspective. It's told from the perspective of a 6-year-old girl, who faces injustice perpetrated by adults. I must commend Ziggy's intelligence in this regard. She seems to be saying that no matter what adults do, the victims are always children. Naive children who don't yet know their purpose in life.

The concept and theme he chose are actually very common, classic, and cliché, but the way he tells it from a child's naive point of view makes me understand why this book has been a best seller since its publication.

I rate this book for 4 from 5 star...

Hasta La Vista...

Vivie Hardika

Hi, Halo, Annyeong! Welcome to my galaxy.

I have so much imagination in my head. Something that I can't achieve as a human and as a girl. So writing is very challenging. Since Junior High School, I have written whatever I want to write. Without skill, I just write what I want to read. Now I have 12th published novels and all of those are romance.
Yeah, I proudly say that I am a passionate author, traveler wannabe, and blogger.
