Planning minister has shown reasons for land acquisition to increase the cost of the project.
He said, "In the process of construction of Padma Bridge, 212 million cubic feet of soil will be lifted from the river. To maintain this huge soil, we have to acquire 1,168 hectares of land. This money will be spent as a lease for the 25 years of the land. "

In 2011, the Awami League government approved the proposal of Padma bridge project involving Tk 20,57 crore involving railways. With the amendment to the project in 2016, the expenditure was increased to Tk 8 billion more.
The Finance Minister has proposed an allocation of Tk 4,395 crore for the fiscal year budget for the Padma Multipurpose Bridge project.
