I have so much I want to show you! I love to travel. I'm not sure but I think I love to plan travel as much as I like to do it! Two years ago I was fortunate to get shown around the Dolomites and South Tyrol of the Alps by an award winning Italian photographer, Paolo de Faveri. I can't recommend him enough. So much so that I am returning to Italy for the 5th immersive visit in my life this autumn. I am fully entrusting him to show me his backyard around Torino and then the island of Sardinia, off the coast, in the Mediterranean. I've got a photog friend who inspires the heck out of me coming along as well. So, the three of us will get about 10 days together, shooting it up, hard!
The beauty of having a guide set up your time is that they have already done the dawn and dusk logistics before with others. It takes the critical times of each day and guarantees a better opportunity than trying to do it blindly. Trust me... However, you have to find a guide who is also flexible to say, ok! when you say you want to stop in that little village over there and walk through it to see the sheep grazing on the other side!
On the occasion of this photo, a little 1-hour diversion provided some of the most intimate photos of my visit to the region. This photo here sums it up fairly well. Yes! There were sheeps and a perfect little farming village not more than a mile outside of the glitzy resort. But no matter how beautiful the destination might be it is the people that you meet along the way that makes travel truly remarkable. This woman who was easily 80+ had a great grandson who's father, as well, had been an Italian skiing champion. For more than 10 generations her family had this sheep farm on the slopes of Cortina d'amprezzo, home to the 1956 Winter Olympics. With Paolo interpreting, we were able to hear and feel her passionate story and she was able to absorb our gratitude for letting us intrude on her daily walk.
