I am still alive and kickig but have been struggling to find the head space and / or make time for writing lately.

There has just been so much going on in clareartista@clareartista and my life, as we have been preparing for a first full Winter on our homestead in rural Italy.

In the last week and a half we have repaired the roof above our bedroom...

( Our first roof repair ever! )

Improved the pipe of our recently installed stove/ woodburner...

We also started on a new window in our kitchen/ living room

And harvested the last of this year's walnuts...

Plus we began harvesting our olives and started reshaping some of our trees that have gotten out of control due to having been pretty much neglected for years by the previous land owners.

They needed a serious haircut.

I am sitting next to our wood stove right now, whilst Clare is (hopefully) getting some much deserved rest.

This morning we went to a huge DIY store to get the missing links for changing our current ( one tap to one sink ) cold water system into a everything-we-need to have a warm bath ( and more ) aka getting comfy enough to make it through the Winter.

Our wood burner will once again function as a water heater too and whilst it heats up the water, as well as the room, it can also serve as an oven.

We did enjoy some lovely roasted tatties for lunch today :^)

And did I mention that we - or mostly Clare - also made some steps and a step ladder to and from our bedroom?

Here's a pic of the step ladder...

I am probably even forgetting a couple of things due to my brain being extremely tired.

Suffice to say that we have been doing a lot.

One day we will look back on these times and be extremely proud. For now we're mostly into survival mode. Our great home cooked meals and deep conversations aboit everything do compensate for all of the hard work.

Hard work done without power tools. Serious manual labor with hammers, chisels, screwdrivers, a hand drill and saws. Yeah, I would almost forgot about all the hand sawing, including fire wood and the hand washing.

We will try to keep you updated...

Keep an eye out on our first post about a proper hot bath in our very unfinised bathroom, a former, small pig sty.

Sending love from Molise!

P.S. Looking at the photos, it might seem like Clare has been doing all the DIY-ing. Truth be told, she has done a lot and it often feels to her like she is doing most of it as she has way more DIY (and life) experience than me, has the brain for it and has had to make do with very little resources for most of her life.

I have been doing a lot of the heavy work though and have been assisting her wherever I could.

Also, it seems like she hasn't been photographing me a lot, lately, as she was too busy doing the work, haha!

Anyhow, the two of us spend almost 24/7 together and despite our ups and downs we are only getting stronger.

💪❤️

To Be Convinued.

Hakuna matata!
