Movie Night.JPG

This afternoon, at the local ( and only ) cafe / restaurant, a neighbor - who I hadn't seen in almost half a year - invited me over for dinner. Vegetarian ( or was it vegan? ) curry, to be precise. I told him 'I would consider it', as I did not necessarily feel like it and have plenty of things to do. I moved back into my house last weekend, after four months of renovation.

Frankly, I felt like watching a movie or two tonight. Going over for dinner would probably lead to me being 'polite enough' to stay for a couple of hours after the meal, talking about topics that do not necessarily interest me. The aforementioned might sound judgmental and is just a guess, but I needed to find a reason to stay at home.

Just before the hour that he told me the curry would be ready, I went out in the pouring rain to dump some trash. My ( guilty ) conscious told me to walk over to the neighbor's house to go have dinner and perhaps some interesting conversation ( writing or future filmmaking material? ), so that's what I did. I knocked on his door and there was no reply. I waited for a bit, while the rain poured down on me. Part of me considered screaming but I am too calm for that these days ( due to daily meditation ) and honestly, I kind of hoped he wouldn't open the door. I walked to the other side of the house, where I saw another ( back ) door but didn't feel like knocking on it. I walked home, passed some of the neighbor's windows. They were all closed with shutters and there was ( still ) no response, nor a person in sight. With a feeling of relieve and 'at least I tried' in the back of my mind, I continued homewards.

At home, I cooked an easy pasta dish ( was called by my twin sister - spoke to my niece, nephew and her for a bit ), had my dinner and decided to write this post, before picking a movie ( or two ) to watch.

Some added random movie related thoughts:

I should not forget to ask my twin sister to bring the VCR that I bought some months ago ( when she visits me one of these days ). I really hope it still works, as my old VCR is at an ex girlfriend's house and the one at my parent's house, that I tried to fix last January, was buried at the VCR graveyard

*I might connect the VCR to my old mini movie projector and install it on my attic. The mini beamer is very low res and only works in the dark but it works fine for VHS movies. As my twin sister suggested, I could turn the attic in a movie (themed) room. Besides beaming videos, I am also thinking of stalling my film books there as well as installing my record player and keeping my vinyls in that space. It's gonna be a nice little man / nerd cave and a fun place for future guests to sleep in or perhaps even rent.

I should check MUBI.com daily to see what new movie is added

I don't miss Netflix at all

I am glad I did not throw out my DVD's and am happy I bought a cheap DVD player recently

I would almost forget that I have a movie projector/ beamer too. It will be fun to watch a film with my brother and his girlfriend, when they come to spend the night at my place in a week's time

If you're still with me... Before I am offline to stare at a movie screen, I want to point your attention to the following:

https://steemit.com/film/@namiks/creating-a-stronger-community-a-curation-trail-discord-for-film-and-movies

namiks@namiks a photographer and future filmmaker, who has been curating movies on Steemit for quite a while, started a new discord channel yesterday, it's called Steemit Movies

Go to the above post for more info, as well as a link to join the channel.

The idea is to talk film - and possibly filmmaking - and grow the film and movies tribe on Steemit.

As a filmmaker and film freak or cinephile, you will find me there too.

Alright, enough talking. It's now time to test my sitting-still skills. Not by means of meditation but with my eyes open, staring at a screen.

I will let you know what I've watched in a future post.

P.S. If you like movie posts, you might want to read my writing from 4 days ago:

Or, if you have time to spare, scroll down my time line for ages, then push CTRL+F and search for 'movies', to find earlier movie posts by me. I wrote a bunch of movie recommendations ( early 2018 )

I know most of you are too lazy to do the above, so you might just wanna go here:
