I'm taking you along with me as I create a new card deck for myself. I will create it with an American Indian theme as I did once before. What is Lenormand? - check out my previous article.
Card 20 - Pow wow
This is another card that changed substantially.
For one thing the original card (garden) has changed dramatically within our modern culture as you'll see in the following...
When we think of the Garden, we tend to think of:
- society and your external environment
- life discrepancies and false friends
- diplomacy, opinions, perspective
- public face, fresh air, a break
- parties and social life
These days, we don't tend to think of our gardens (even public gardens) in this light - especially considering that the word "garden" has different meanings in different parts of the English speaking world. So, I looked for something in Native American Indian culture that seemed to correlate to the traditional card.
I came up with Pow wow.
To me, these events are:
- public face of tribal life
- party and social opportunity for members
- displaying the society within the external (non-native) environment
- show face - which may be different from the real one - false friends
- opportunity for intertribal relationships/political congress

For my new card, For my new card, I hit Google Images search, looking for something with CC0 (Creative Commons 0) licensing meaning that I don't always have to remember to credit someone - essential if I were to start doing paid readings with these cards.
I also had to find out which traditional playing card is associated with this card. So, here is my result:

I've been looking for a good excuse to use this picture ever since I saw it! It's bold, colorful and really represents the reality of a pow wow - or any big social event. Everything is larger than life, on display and for show. It's not a great place for forging real friendships and can often leave some out on the fringes. It's also the place to connect the tribes with the public. So, there really is a lot going on here.
I really like the result.
Note: Readings are entertainment only (legally). You are in charge of your own destiny.
