Do you have memories of your favorite swimming hole as a kid? Or do you wish you had? This little spot across the Kettle River from Curlew, Washington, is just the place that every child dreams of!

Here, the river is fairly shallow and tame with just enough depth to keep swimmers happy.

Looking north towards Canada (probably 5 miles away from this spot), August thunderstorms were beginning to sprout.

At this place, the Kettle River is flowing north. It goes into British Columbia aways before turning south again. Eventually, it meets up with the Columbia River about 20 miles southeast of here.

This bridge has a metal deck, so no one crosses quietly! I think it's a fairly pretty bridge.

Here is the town of Curlew. For its size, it's a pretty happening place with a small supermarket, a post office, a library and even a museum that I was able to visit in 2016.

My daughter (emberskydragon@emberskydragon) isn't a swimmer yet.
Not that it stopped her... on a friend's floatie, she started drifting towards Canada.

Fortunately, there were plenty of confident swimmers ready to rescue her!

(I'm not including those incriminating pictures for security reasons.)

Looking upstream, watching the thunderheads grow... wishing for a nice boat. Still, it was a beautiful and relaxing way to spend the later part of the day. When we started hearing thunder, we knew it was time to go.

Photos taken by myself in August 2019 with my Pentax K30.
