Going through my 2007 photos, I found a couple that one of my sons took in Dorset, England. I was inspired to play...

The base photo was taken in the daytime near Lulworth Cove along the English Channel.

In editing this picture:

  1. I duplicated the image in case I messed up. (I turned off visibility of the original.)
  2. I added an "alpha channel" to the copy layer.
  3. I used my fuzzy select and eraser tools to delete the original sky (typically British overcast sky).
  4. I "open as layers" with a CC0 Cosmos image (from Piqsels, I think.) This was put below (or behind) the main layer to serve as a background.
  5. I added the CC0 moon as another layer, in front of the cosmos. (I used 80% opacity on this layer so it didn't totally dominate the image.)
  6. On the original layer, I selected the land and sea (select sky and "invert" the selection) and used my bucket fill at 10%, first in black, then in a matching fluorescent green, until the land/water took on just enough of the sky color.

Finally, I uploaded the final image to: RedBubble , TeePublic , and DeviantArt in order to share it with you.

Original photo belongs to my son, Ian.
All editing work done by myself on: Gimp and/or Photoscape.
