With this past weekend, the 2018 pow wow trail has officially commenced. It was a good time, but I was not able to attend on the Saturday evening.
Apparently there was some crazy energy floating around the Manitoba Room in Brandon Manitoba that night. Some young grass dancers were seen having seizures, suffering from whatever it is that compelled them to drop hard. This is no laughing matter. Pow wow's can be dangerous places when you are not prepared, which is why I always travel with family who knows how to handle themselves.
The drumming was good, and the vibes were high on Sunday when I did make it. It was just great to be able to be there as a part of the event, even if it was from the spectator's spot.
Traditionally, you are not supposed to compete in your hometown as it is. So I don't mind the fact that I was just not up to it.
In addition to that, here is a poster for the next up and coming pow wow that I know of.
Last years pow wow in Yorkton was fantastic. The church where it's hosted was extrememly hospitable. The old ladies in the kitchen made us a super tasty feast for dinner break. And the dancing was on point! Sadly the drum that carried us there, will not be able to make it in it's current shape, but there will be many good times to be had. Guranteed.
This might be the first one I suit up for!
Time will tell!
