Something that has caught my attention when talking to people in my country is that most of them seem to blame all national problems on the government, which is not surprising, of course, the government being as tyrannical, corrupt and inefficient as it is, but at the same time, I think that, to a certain extent, this way of thinking can be a trap that, many times, prevents us from taking part of the responsibility that corresponds to us for the fact that things are of the way they are, many times we can think that certain people or groups of people are evil, and therefore they are the problem, be it the government, the elite, the wealthy, the politicians of this or that party or the supporters of this or that ideology, etc., and we can believe that if we end with these people or take away their power, then, problem solved, everything will fit, but it is not so, not even if we completely disappeared these people things would start to go well, it is not as easy as saying "these are the bad guys, if we get rid of them everything will start to go well", because it is simply not true, this is what happened when the monarchies were overthrown, people might think that if they got rid of the monarch it would be the end of the tyranny, but that was not what happened, as history shows, and in some places, as is the case from Russia, what happened next was even worse, when the Bolsheviks took power.
So it's not as easy as just pointing someone out and blaming them for all ills, I think this is a mistake that most people fall into thereby avoiding the problem and taking a passive stance, doing nothing about it so that the situation changes, because, after all, no one is responsible for anything, and no one is committed to changing anything. Even when those in power are really an evil that we must deal with, fighting them to the end is not really the solution, because everything will not start to go magically well when they are not, the reality is that it is very likely that someone else, equal or worse, will take their place, because it is, after all, the same society that is putting these types of people in power. So a change from the bottom up is required, a change within the people, because, really one does not end evil by fighting against it, that is a misconception, it requires a little more commitment, one ends evil by being good.
It actually requires a change in us to change the situation, it is not that these people are doing it wrong, so we need new faces, or that this ideology is wrong, and we must find a better one, or that the system is broken, and we need other, because while all of that may be true, nothing is really going to change until we, the people, make a change in ourselves.
Nations are not the State, nations are the people, and it is the virtue of people that determines the proper functioning of society, we cannot expect those who are above to do something to change what we are living, because that will never happen, and honestly, it cannot happen, it is up to us to assume the responsibility and commitment that life in society demands of us.
