I’ve been in reflection mode for some years now, and quite recently, a lot has been on my mind. But at the center of all my reflections, comes the plague that troubles human existence.
“What plague?” You might ask. Well, the thing is we all want to enjoy our life, and whether you think of enjoyment as partying, having a successful career, being employed in a high-paying job, being a tik-tok star, experiencing what it means to be a musical star, or whether you just want enough cash to take care of your needs, your girlfriend’s needs, and also spend quality time with your friends and family.
It might also be that enjoyment for you is living your dream life, whatever it may be. I guess what I’m trying to get at is that we are all aiming to live to our potential.
We want to live a life that outlives us. A life that utilizes every drop of our capabilities. We want to be creative and influential and do lots of amazing things, but it seems that we can’t.
What I refer to as the plague troubling human existence is the acceptance of defeat. Submissiveness to mediocrity. The surrendering of our will and power to circumstances that fight us. And somehow, we just believe that it is over. That we can’t be who we are meant to be because the odds are against us.
I was watching one of Les Brown’s motivational videos, and in that video he made a quote that struck me. He said: “ You can’t get out of life alive, so you may as well have a good time."
I know you’re reading this piece, so let me repeat it to you: “You can’t get out of life alive, so you may as well have a good time." And even as I say this to you, I’m also saying it to myself. It’s always on my mind. The consciousness that “I can’t get out of life alive”. No one can. Not even me and certainly not you.
Now that you’ve known this, there are 4 important things you need to understand for you to be ready to take life on. I have thought about these 4 things, and I’m trying my best to do all that I can to make my life better by getting a grasp on these tips. I believe it will be beneficial for you too if you reflect on them. So let’s get into it.
Life is a fight and you’ve got to be ready
source
"Yes!" You heard me right. Life is a fight, and you’ve got to be ready for it. It took me a long time to realize that you’ve got to fight for everything that pertains to your life.
You’ve got to fight to be happy, you’ve got to fight to overcome addiction, you’ve got to fight for your career, you’ve got to fight for your family, you’ve got to fight the negative voices inside your head, you’ve got to fight for your dream life, you’ve got to fight your bad habits, you’ve got to fight societal and family norms that want to relegate you to the background and control your life as they seem fit.
We have already been influenced one way or the other, subconsciously and consciously, to exhibit behaviors that are detrimental to our liberation, and we must be ready to fight to become the person we will be proud of.
There’s no safe place in life. Whether you’re on the battlefield or right there on the sidelines, you’ll still be knocked out. Therefore, being courageous enough to live your life like you mean it is a must. Put your boxing gloves on and be ready to take the center stage. It is your life and you must fight for it at any cost.
Do what’s important for you
source
You’ll agree with me that one of the greatest pain and tragedies we have to go through is living our lives for others rather than ourselves.
When I look at my life and think of where I would have been if I had dared to do the things that are important for my well-being, I know immediately that I need to make drastic changes.
I’m not there yet, but I want to live my life on my terms. You've got to do the things that you’ve got to do for yourself and yourself alone. You’ve let other people decide what and how your life should be for so long. I guess is time for you to say “No” and live for yourself.
Dare to be controversial
If you want to know who’s got your back, then be controversial. People will always claim to love you, and they do sometimes, but even your closest friends and family members will turn their back on you when you decide to take a different route and dare to do things that are challenging.
I’m not saying you should hate your friends or family members, but I’m just telling you the truth. If you have a friend that gives you advice and tips on how you can be better equipped to take that controversial route that is daunting but leads to self-discovery, then you’re truly blessed. Never let that friend go, no matter what.
Do not be deceived to think that people will always support your dreams because your intentions are right and you’re not doing any evil. The tree with the best fruits takes the most stones.
Your route may be daunting and intimidating, but don’t worry about it. Every great man has passed through that route of controversy. You’re not the first and you won’t be the last. Always dare to be controversial.
Live your life in the best way

One question you should ask yourself daily is “How am I living?’’ Your life should always reflect good values. For me, living in the best way means this:
You have integrity in all you do.
You have a pleasing personality and a radiant look
You take good care of your health and well-being
You inspire and bring out the best in others.
You’re invested in your purpose.
You’re willing to use your potential to the fullest.
You make joy, happiness and peace of mind a priority.
You are taking drastic steps to improve your life.
When you live a life that enriches you positively and in turn impacts the lives of others around you then you are living your life in the best way.
You can’t get out of life alive so you have to be ready to fight for your life, do what’s important to you, dare to be controversial, and live your life in the best way that you possibly can.
