Once upon a time, in a land far away,
There lived a greedy grinch, who loved to play.
He hoarded all the presents, and ate all the sweets,
And laughed, as he watched the children weep.
The villagers, they tried to stop him,
But he was too quick, and far too slim.
He slid through the chimneys and stole all the toys,
And left behind only sorrow and noise.
But one day, as he crawled through a house,
He heard a voice that made him pause.
It was a little girl, no more than four,
Who looked at him with eyes of pure awe.
“Why do you take all the things we get?”
She asked, as if she’d never met
A Grinch before, with a heart so cold,
A creature so greedy, and yet so bold.
The Grinch was taken aback, and didn’t know what to say,
He had never been asked that question before, in such a curious way.
So he sat down with the little girl, and told her his tale,
Of how he has grown up in poverty, and had always been frail.
He told her of how he had always wanted more,
And how he had never been satisfied before.
But as he spoke, he began to see,
That the things he had hoarded, meant nothing to he.
And so, he decided to give them all away,
To the children, who had always been his prey.
And as he watched their faces light up with glee,
He knew that he had finally found the key.
The key to happiness, the key to joy,
The key that he had been searching for, like a little boy.
And so, he became a hero, a legend in the land,
A Grinch who had learned to give, and to understand.
And now, whenever he’s mentioned, in a story or a rhyme,
They always tell of how he changed, in such a short time.
And how he became a friend, to all the girls and boys,
A Grinch, who finally found, the true meaning of joy.
