Quite recently, I received a copy of Dr. Susan Jeffers' book, Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway, and I can tell you that it was an eye-opener. The book is as inspirational as it is practical, and I will gladly recommend it to anyone who’s paralyzed by fear, as I was.
It is a book I pick up whenever I’m having difficulties taking that leap of faith to do the things that scare me. It draws attention to the crucial truth that you must act immediately and not wait for your fear to pass.
Permit me to share with you the 5 truths about fear that are discussed in this book, and I guarantee that they will open your eyes as well. So let’s dive into it.
Are you surprised by this? Don’t be. Any time you strive to become a better version of yourself or stretch your capabilities, you will always experience fear. It isn’t going to go away. But you don’t have to worry about it. Your relationship with fear will drastically change as your confidence grows.
I know you might have heard this many times, but that’s just the way it is. "Doing it” always comes before the fear goes away. You are not afraid of certain things in your life because you’ve done them repeatedly.
When you make something happen, not only does the fear of the situation go away, but you build trust in yourself, which in turn builds your self-confidence.
Every great man that has ever walked the earth has experienced fear, and that includes “Jesus”. Yes, you heard me right. So, you are not alone. You have the rest of the world to keep you company. The issue is that they didn’t allow fear to stop them from accomplishing their objectives. Neither should you.
When you eventually push through fear, you avoid regret. Furthermore, when you finally do something you were afraid to do, you wonder why it has taken you forever to take action. There’s always an underlying fear when you refuse to take action, and that fear is dreadful because you know within you that a day of reckoning is coming.
We all have fears within us, and it differs from one individual to the next. For me, it took courage to write this blog post. For you, it might be something different. In the meantime, you must learn to “feel the fear.. and do it anyway!”.
