María José was an attractive woman of 25 and extremely ambitious. With her youth and beauty she attracted men twice her age. Those who knew her were used to seeing her every year with a different "old man", all of them had, at least, a big company, a luxury house, a late model car and a failed marriage in between.
Although... not everything would go so well for her this time, in fact, it was going to go very badly. The accumulated karma was returned to her multiplied by the number of her swindles, thefts, deceits and shamelessness.
Maria José started a new job as an assistant in a cleaning products company. Of course, she was the boss's assistant, the ideal candidate to be his next sugar daddy. It all came about rather quickly, too soon for what she was used to, in a month she already had him eating out of her hand. They had a "serious" relationship and it was obvious to everyone's eyes, Fabio was still married to his second wife, but they had not been together for ten years. The lady never wanted to give him a divorce.
Three months into the relationship, they started living together. However, it wasn't all plain sailing, she didn't count on the fact that in the apartment also lived her two children: Ana, 14 and Guillermo, 18. Both hated her and let her know it every time they could, especially the younger daughter who treated her like a left-handed zero, (as she really was, if that's the way we are going to look at it). For obvious reasons, Any and Guille's mother hated her just as much, she knew what kind of opportunist she was and that this "relationship" was not going to end well:
-Fabio, for God's sake... how can you not realize that she only wants your company? That woman is stealing from you. Frankly, I'm not at all happy that you have her living with you when your children are still there too. What example are you setting for them?
-Yvonne, don't start... it's been over between us for a long time, I love her and I'm not going to take her out of my house just because you're jealous of her. What you should do is give me a divorce.
-I would never do that. My children come first and if you get married, they'll be left out in the street. Because that bitch is going to take EVERYTHING away from you.
-Respect her, Yvonne, I won't allow you to continue expressing yourself that way about her.
Many such conversations were repeated without success. The man was blinded by the young girl. After two more months, he fired Yvonne from his company because María José was shocked that her "ex" was still working with him. She felt it was disrespectful to their "relationship," so she influenced Fabio enough to hand Yvonne a check with her severance pay and a letter of termination without giving her a chance to say anything.
As a lawyer, Yvonne was thinking about taking matters into her own hands. She had already caught the young lady once before, diverting funds from the company's account to another account, her own. The administrator was aware of the situation, decided to watch her down and kept evidence of every unjustified diversion she made. The evidence of the theft was being provided to Yvonne so that she could be removed from the company as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, with the appearance of COVID-19 and the economic disaster that this entailed, the investigation of the delinquent stopped. Everything was at a standstill because of the pandemic and jobs took on a virtual mode. Most of them started to get sick, some workers died and others had to rest and quarantine. The administrator also fell ill and was in a delicate condition for some time. Like everyone else in the country, most of them were infected, some asymptomatic and others very seriously. As expected, with the virus disaster, they did not think about robberies for several months.
The deliveryman ended up becoming infected and Fabio took on the responsibility of delivering the products to his customers. He himself went from house to house, dropping off the merchandise and taking the appropriate safety measures to avoid contagion as far as possible, since the company no longer had enough personnel. Besides, due to his age and pathologies, it would be quite dangerous for him to get sick, as he was already 62 years old.
Our dear María José was very happy, she was not going to waste the opportunities offered by the circumstances, and even more so now with the situation she was going through. She continued to divert part of the funds without being noticed and more at ease because there was no one who could stop her. She had already calculated in her head a plan to finish embezzling the company and go far away with all the money.
Fabio began to suspect that he had coronavirus, he had had a slight fever and cough for two days. He did not know whether to get tested or go to the doctor first:
-Calm down, my love, I don't think you need to go to the doctor. Remember that my dad got it recently and nothing serious happened to him. And he's older than you, Fabio.
-You're right, my precious. I'm worrying too much, I know I have you and that you will take good care of me, you would never let anything bad happen to me. I'll do the quarantine, I'll stay at home.
-Yes, honey, don't worry, I'll take care of everything.
It was the ideal occasion, she had free will to do whatever she wanted. The girl went quietly, taking out cash and took, with the help of a brother, the cleaning products. With the same truck that they used in the company to deliver the merchandise, they took EVERYTHING little by little. They agreed to keep half of the products and sell the remaining part at twice what it really cost.
Fabio became much more serious and María José had to take him to a clinic. As she had already stolen almost all the money, since she had also emptied his personal accounts, she had to call Yvonne to ask her for money, as they did not want to admit Fabio until he gave an initial payment of $3000. Naturally, Yvonne was stunned, at what point had her husband gotten sick and how come he didn't have the money, why hadn't he been treated for the virus from the beginning? She decided not to argue, her husband was very ill and his respiration was less than 80.
After settling the money and much to her regret, she had to leave, she could not leave her children alone. She was not at all happy that it was María José who had to stay behind to take care of her husband. She had the consolation that Fabio was still conscious.
A couple of days later, she found out from the doctor that María José had the virus and, without further ado, she left the clinic. She had left her husband alone and incidentally, she was the one who infected him. The anger that possessed Yvonne at that moment was indescribable. She had a premonition and immediately called the administrator, who had already returned to work, and informed him of Fabio's state of health. He in turn informed her that the company was bankrupt and that the merchandise had been stolen.
They were hard moments of great confusion, being attentive to her husband who was getting more and more serious and keeping track of the girl, who had already moved out of her husband's house and they did not know of her whereabouts. In the end, Yvonne had to give her children the worst news: their father had died of a blood clot in his lung. They could not even say goodbye to him, they had to cremate him all at once, following the protocol for coronavirus deaths.
But not everything would stay that way, justice was going to come sooner than Yvonne thought. In the end, she was going to give María José what she deserved.
Bankrupt and with the worst possible prognosis, given the events, Yvonne had to gather her strength for her children and put aside her pain; she had to give the slut what she deserved, she was not going to get away with it. She decided to hire an auditor, explained the situation to him and, very efficiently, he began to do his job. While the auditor was in the company, the sales manager, who had been recommended to the office by María José, resigned.
In the audit they discovered all the embezzlements, the auditor gathered everything in a file and gave it to Yvonne, who was already prepared with another lawyer to go directly to the prosecutor's office and denounce María José, her brother and the complicit manager. The evidence included the recordings from the security cameras, where the moment in which all the merchandise was stolen could be clearly observed.
With ample evidence and after struggling with the legal process, María José was charged with theft, swindling and falsification of signatures and documents. The brother was charged with theft and the manager with fraud. Unfortunately, both the brother and the manager could not be found. Both had fled the country a week before. Maria José was much luckier, she was found hiding at a sister's house and is now in prison, serving a sentence of six years and four months.
Yvonne cared little about the other two. What she was interested in was that the intellectual author of the events would pay for what she had done, the only one guilty and who had planned everything. Now she could rest assured. Between her and her eldest son, they raised the company and everything was returning to normal, a normality without Fabio, but at least justice had been done and they were doing better than before.
