30 December 2024, @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2602: save me!
We often hear about people committing suicide in the news.
Statistics show that the number one cause is financial and the number two is relationship problems.
If you look at the sentences of criminals who survived suicide attempts after murdering their family members, you'll see financial causes such as loans, debts, and bankruptcy.
It's not uncommon to see cases where a family member took their own life because they couldn't cope with the burden of debt and living expenses.
In terms of relationships, a man who stalked and killed his lover was recently sentenced to 30 years in prison.
After the breakup, he allegedly continued to visit her residence, waiting and killing her.
In both of these cases, it shouldn't be said that it's an individual's problem and they should be left alone.
Instead of sitting on the sidelines, the government should be active in legislating and enacting policies to regulate household debt and help debtors get back on their feet.
In addition, we need to protect the safety and psychological well-being of victims of stalking crimes.
Effective measures are also needed to prevent the perpetrator from having physical and digital contact with the victim.
They are screaming to save me.
It's time for the government to step up to the plate.
Let them come out of darkness and despair into the light.
