๐Ÿฅ› 1 to 1 1/2 cups milk
๐Ÿ›ข๏ธ Oil for frying

Instructions

1- Combine Dry Ingredients:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cardamom, 2 teaspoons yeast, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
  • Whisk these ingredients thoroughly to ensure even distribution.

2- Prepare Wet Ingredients:

  • In a separate smaller bowl, whisk together 1 large egg, 1 cup of milk, and 2 tablespoons of melted margarine.
  • Mix until well combined.

3- Mixing the Dough:

  • Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients.
  • Pour the wet mixture into it.
  • Stir with a wooden spoon, gradually incorporating the flour.

4- Kneading:

  • Transfer the dough onto a clean, floured surface.
  • Knead for about 10 to 15 minutes, adding small amounts of flour if the dough becomes too sticky.
  • Continue until the dough is smooth and elastic.

5- First Rise:

  • Place the dough back in the bowl and cover it with a kitchen napkin.
  • Allow it to rise in a warm place for approximately 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

6- Shaping the Mandazi:

  • Once risen, lightly knead the dough for 1 minute.
  • Divide into portions and roll each portion to about 1/4 inch thickness using a rolling pin.
  • Use a round cookie cutter to cut circles, then cut each circle into four triangles using a knife.

7- Frying:

  • Heat oil in a deep pot over medium heat.
  • Carefully add the Mandazi pieces and fry until they turn golden brown.
  • Flip continuously to ensure even cooking.

8- Drain and Serve:

  • Remove the fried Mandazi from the oil and place them on a wire rack or paper towel to drain.
  • Serve warm as a delightful snack or breakfast item.
