Moroccan Khobz: Traditional White Bread

Ingredients

Instructions

1- Activate the Yeast:

  • In a small glass bowl, combine 1/2 tablespoon of dry yeast and 1/2 teaspoon of sugar with a little warm water.
  • Stir with a spoon and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.

2- Mix Dry Ingredients:

  • In a large glass bowl, add 3 cups of all-purpose flour.

3- Combine Ingredients:

  • To the flour, add 1/2 tablespoon of vegetable oil, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon sugar, and the activated yeast mixture.
  • Gradually mix in warm water by hand until a cohesive, non-sticky dough forms.

4- Knead the Dough:

  • Transfer the dough to a clean countertop.
  • Knead energetically using the palms for about 5 minutes until it becomes soft and elastic.

5- Divide and Shape:

  • Cut the dough into four equal parts.
  • Knead each piece for an additional minute, shaping them into smooth, circular mounds.

6- First Rest:

  • Place the dough balls on a tray, cover with a towel, and let them rest for 10 minutes to relax.

7- Flatten the Dough:

  • Sprinkle flour on your workspace.
  • Flatten each dough ball into a circle about 1/4 inch thick using your palms.

8- Second Rest (Rising):
