A favorite either as a scrumptious appetizer or a delightful main course. Crispy on the outside and deliciously gooey on the inside, this dish is accompanied by creamy tartar sauce and herbed potato wedges, making it a complete symphony of flavors.

Ingredients

🧀 4 slices of cheese approx. 1 cm thick, recommended types Eidam, Blaťácké zlato, or Gouda
🥚 1 whole egg
🥛 2-3 tablespoons of milk
🌾 2 tablespoons of plain flour
🍞 1-2 cups of breadcrumbs sufficient for double coating
🛢️ 2-3 cups of frying oil for pan-frying

🥄 1/2 cup of mayonnaise
🥄 1 tablespoon of mustard
🧂 1/2 teaspoon of salt
🌶️ 1/4 teaspoon of pepper, plus fresh ground pepper
🍷 1 tablespoon of vinegar
🧅 1 small spring onion white part, finely chopped
🥒 3-4 small pickles gherkins, finely chopped

🥔 2-3 medium potatoes, cut into wedges and cooked
🌿 Fresh parsley for garnish


Instructions

1- Prepare the Batter:

  • In a mixing bowl, crack the egg and whisk it thoroughly.
  • Add the milk and flour, and whisk until you have a smooth, slightly thick batter.

2- Bread the Cheese:

  • Fully submerge each cheese slice into the batter.
  • Ensure a complete coating.

3- First Crumb Coating:

  • Place the battered cheese into a bowl of breadcrumbs.
  • Press gently to ensure full coverage.

4- Double Crumb Coating:

  • Dip the breaded cheese back into the batter.
  • Coat with breadcrumbs once more to seal the cheese.

5- Prepare the Sauce:

  • In another bowl, combine mayonnaise, mustard, salt, and pepper.
  • Whisk these ingredients until well mixed.

6- Add Flavor to the Sauce:

  • Add vinegar to the sauce, whisk.
  • Incorporate the finely chopped spring onion and pickles, mixing well.

7- Fry the Cheese:

  • Heat the frying oil in a pan until hot.
  • Carefully fry the cheese slices until golden brown and crispy on both sides.
