Traditional Czech Bread Dumplings (Houskový Knedlíky)
Experience the comforting taste of traditional Czech cuisine with these delightful bread dumplings. A perfect side dish for rich stews and roasted meats, Houskový Knedlíky are a staple in Czech kitchens.

Ingredients
🌾 2 cups Wondra Flour
🧂 1 tablespoon baking powder
🥚 1 large egg
🥛 1 cup milk
Instructions
1- Prepare the Dough:
- Place 2 cups of Wondra flour into the mixing bowl of a KitchenAid stand mixer.
- Add 1 tablespoon of baking powder to the flour.
- Crack 1 large egg into the bowl with the dry ingredients.
- Pour 1 cup of milk into the mixture.
2- Mix Ingredients:
- Attach the bowl and dough hook to the stand mixer.
- Mix on medium speed until a cohesive dough forms. The dough should be smooth and elastic.
3- Shape the Dumplings:
- Remove the dough from the mixer.
- On a black cutting board, manually knead and shape the dough into two cylindrical logs.
4- Boil the Dumplings:
- Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil.
- Carefully place the two dough logs into the boiling water.
- Boil for 20 minutes, turning them over halfway through using a wooden spoon to ensure even cooking.
5- Slice and Serve:
- Once cooked, remove the dumplings from the water.
- Using tongs to hold each dumpling, slice them into thick, round pieces with a knife.
- Serve the dumplings warm, ideally alongside a rich goulash or the traditional dish of pork, sauerkraut, and dumplings.
