"Adrien, I was in your dream, but you might not have recognized me. I was the one that saved you," I heard my body's voice say. I actually split my face from the shock. I couldn't believe it. I just had an out-of-body experience, or, ''dream.'' I don't think anyone had ever had an out-of-body experience, and then ended up back in there.
"I know you recognize me. You may not, but please try. I really need this," I heard myself say, and I just laughed. My voice was all that I heard right now, but it was my voice. I just wanted my body to move, and I wanted to blow the roof off this hospital, but I couldn't do that. I was still in the beginning stages of being conscious.
"Adrien, I know this isn't funny, but please listen," myself said again, and I couldn't help, but to laugh. It was too ridiculous. I tried to hold my own hand, and although I couldn't feel anything, it was just too ridiculous not to laugh.
"Sorry, but I just can't stop laughing," I said, and then realized that my mouth was open, and I was talking. I didn't want to talk, so I clenched my jaw, and I heard. "Sorry about that," I said as I tried to tell my mouth to close. It was hard, because whatever it was doing now was all it knew.
"Let's just say that I've been saving lives for years, and I finally got to save someone. Someone more important in the world than I had ever thought possible would be possible," I heard myself say, and I blinked. This wasn't right. Who was I talking to? What was I saying?
Then it all made sense, and I couldn't believe it. ''Self,'' had taken me over, and it accidentally took over me. I may not have been the same person back at school, but I was still ''Self,'' the one that everybody called ''Adrien,'' the one that everyone wanted to be friends with.
The room went quiet, and it was all I heard. The slow ticking of the clock on the wall by the window was practically the only thing I heard. It was so quiet, and I was just in that mind I was in before. I didn't need anything; I wasn't in pain, or feeling any sort of sickness. I was just awake, alive and well.
I was fine with this, until I heard footsteps. They were walking close to me, and I tried to ask who was there, but all that came out was, "Who's there?" It was an awkward question to ask, because I was sure I already knew.
"Adrien, my boy, you're awake. I knew it. I just knew it," Mr. Agreste said, and he sounded as genuinely happy as he could be. It was strange, but I wanted to hug him. I wanted to feel my body, and I wanted to see myself again. I was happy that Mr. Agreste was as happy as he could be. I was happy, until I had to find out who he was. I had to know who I was to this man.
I did know the name, I just didn't know. I had to know why I have the same last name as he does. I had to know why he was my father. "Mr. Agreste, who am I?" I asked, and now I was able to feel my voice rasping from the dryness. That was the first sign of me waking up.
"Adrien, it's me. It's your father," he said, and I was floored. It didn't seem real. My mind was trying to catch up, and then it did. I had to ask him. I had to know. "How do you know who I am?'' I asked, and was able to feel my mouth moving.
"I didn't think that was possible, but you are your mother's son, obviously. Your mother was Adrien Agreste, and your father is Mr. Agreste. You have a last name, but you actually have the last name of my wife," Mr. Agreste said, and I knew at this point that this must be a dream, but it felt too real.
Then I heard my mother's voice. It's finally time to wake up, I thought. I mourned in silence, as I knew I was about to wake up, and that it would all be over. I really didn't want it to be over. I started crying, and then everything started to fade to black. I finally woke up, and I was back in my own body. "Adrien, can you hear me? Please, Adrien, wake up," I heard my father say, and I heard it this time. I really heard it.
It was my voice, but it was the voice of Mr. Agreste. I was awake, and it was real. I couldn't believe it. It was real, and I wanted to laugh and scream, and just embrace every second of it. Mr. Agreste looked so happy. He was crying, but he was happy. He loved me.
That was the moment when things changed. I was awake and alive, I finally had hope for myself, and I wanted to know everything. I wanted to know everything Mr. Agreste's life was like, and I wanted to know everything my career was like, and I wanted to know about my mother, but life would change everything.
I was told that I had hit my head. Life was changing faster than Adrien Gregoire could handle. He was going to get back up on his feet and life was going to beat him to a pulp, or at least make it feel like that. I was going to fight, and I was going to change, and I was going to never give up, no matter what life throws at me. I was going to be my own hero, and show my best friend, an ex-prince, that he didn't have to be royal to be heroic.
I was going to be someone, and things were going to change.
