These days everyone seems to be chasing the newest, biggest and best things. I was caught in the trap and every year I'm looking for the latest version of my infinix, probably not the most expensive of phones but peer pressure made it that way.
People are looking for bigger houses, better cars, more luxury stuff just for the flex. Once people get their hands on something, they want something better right away. Last month my neighbor just got a new generator. But after two weeks it wasn't enough so he’s looking for a bigger one. The old one still works just fine, but it isn’t good enough for him anymore.
Wanting more becomes a trap. It actually spreads like a disease. Once you believe there is something you are always one purchase away from being satisfied, you will keep that belief forever.
I see this happen with my coworkers too. Once someone gets a promotion, they spend the next three months wanting to go to the next highest position. They cannot enjoy their current position, because they already want something else. The saying, "If you can't be satisfied with a small, you won't be satisfied with anything" sounds exaggerated but I’ve seen it play out many times, which keeps me from completely dismissing it.
Being content doesn’t mean to stop wanting to accomplish greatness or to give up on your dreams. But the thing is if your current possessions leave you empty, adding to that won’t change anything. This just puts you in a rabbit hole with no way out, you keep wanting with no satisfaction till you're dead.
