Battle Mage Secrets: Heavy Hitters - Strike When They Are Lost
Prelude
Hello everybody, how is it going? It's time for more Battle Mage Secrets. Last week's sharing was on how we can survive the battles without any form of healing. This week the ruleset will be on how to make use of the ruleset to get more damage out of monsters that got stunned. To be honest, it took me quite a long time to finally get a good match for sharing, thankful that the elusive ruleset finally appeared about 2 hours before this post.
The ruleset of the challenge this week is: Heavy Hitters
Ruleset Spotlight
Heavy Hitters
All units gain the Knock Out ability.
Knock Out: Does double damage when attacking an enemy that is stunned
Abilities/Cards that get shutdown with this rule set
Essentially there is no abilities or cards that can get shutdown due to this rule set. No restriction on cards able to be played.
What thrives with this ruleset?
So from above, this ruleset causes more damage to be taken by stunned cards, therefore in order to capitalize this ruleset, stun givers need to be included in the lineup, else it is effectively a normal match.
Here is a list of easily accessed stun cards:
| Card | Splinter |
|---|---|
| Septic Slime | Fire |
| Technowizologist | Fire |
| Water Caller | Water |
| Uloth Dhampir | Earth |
| Runeslinger | Life |
| Revealer | Death |
After ensuring that there is a stun giver in the lineup, need to also consider some form of defence. Cards to be considered will be those with immunity. These cards will be not be afflicted with negative status which includes stun, therefore not affected by the double damage of the ruleset.
Here is a list of easily accessed cards with immunity:
| Card | Splinter |
|---|---|
| Forgotten One | Fire |
| Evelyn Auvera | Life |
| Kralus | Life |
| Almo Cambio | Neutral |
One thing to note is that most of the stun givers are non melee, so cards with snipe ability can be considered so as to be able to remove these cards before they become a problem.
Stats consideration for this ruleset is simple. High armour, high health and high speed.
With these in mind, let's start to talk about the battle proper.

- Position 3 - Goblin Psychic
- Position 4 - Uloth Dhampir
- Position 5 - Sand Worm
- Position 6 - Mycelic Slipspawn
Prediction before pressing rumble
Both sides have stun giver, but I specifically put in Harklaw to block off any stun to prolonged the protection of my backline. Surprised that both me and my opponent chose to include a Sand Worm in the lineup. May the best side win.
Battle Synopsis
Round 1, Boomz! Right at the first turn, Revealer landed a stun and Sand Worm followed through with a massive hit and took out my opponent's Mycelic Slipspawn.
Round 2, Loads of action, Raa couldn't handle 2 hits from my opponent's Sand Worm and fell. Multiple barrage especially the attack from Grund severely wounded Harklaw and subsequently it was taken out by opponent's Uloth Dhampir. Revealer stuns Grund.
Round 3, Arachne Thug smashes Grund on it stun state and took it out. My Sand Worm struck and took down my opponent's copy of it.
Round 4, Nectar Queen smashed my Arachne Thug and Uloth Dhampir landed a stun on my Djinn Muirat before being taken out by Sand Worm.
Round 5, Revealer stands the front while Sand Worm smashes Goblin Psychic.
Round 6 and 7, Revealer got taken out by Nectar Queen while Sand Worm striking hard for both turns finally took out Nectar Queen and secure the victory.
Post Battle Summary
Whew, a very close match on to the very last HP remaining on Sand Worm whom happens to the card of the match where it took out many cards from the rear, especially that big hit on turn one on the stunned Mycelic Slipspawn. Subsequently, even my Djinn Muirat fell victim to a stun and got taken out in a single blow by my opponent's Nectar Queen. All in all, a very nice match and good considerations put up by both me and my opponent.
Did my strategy work? Yes, in the matchup I put in a few key elements to help ensure my victory. Firstly was the stun giver which is ever critical in this ruleset in Revealer whom did what he supposed to do which 2 good stuns. Next will be Harklaw which possessed the Immunity ability which fend off the massive attacks from Grund and Uloth Dhampir. Raa was placed to weaken cards with its double scatter range shot. Finally the punisher in the form of Sand Worm, which did great with many important kills with its massive attack stats.
What's the Battle Mage Secret?
In the past, I just treated this ruleset as a normal match due to the lack of stun giving cards. With more stun giving cards recently in the reward cards and also Rift Watchers, this ruleset becomes more interesting. If we look at the match that I shared above, if my opponent played the stun card and I didn't, I will be at his/her mercy when stun lands and I need to take double damage.
But today, the Battle Mage Secret that I am sharing will be the combination of Stun Giving and Immunity pairing. Many would just let it go and treat this as a normal match, but having Immunity will help prolong lineup resistance before backline exposure. Also the additional deployment of punisher in the form Sand Worm is something to consider where taunt cards like Mycelic Slipspawn can be taken out in just one single blow. If it permits, I would also consider snipe cards to take out my opponent's stun giving cards. So in summary, ensure there is minimally 1 stun giver, have some cards with Immunity to sustain the lineup from that nasty double damage and prepare cards to smash from the back or to snipe off the stun giving card.
