Hello friends. Today I decided to tell you about one of the many architectural wonders located in my homeland Bulgaria. Two years ago we made an incredible trip to the heart of the Rhodope Mountains, namely the village of Sarnitsa located next to Dospat Dam. see and tell about this area but today I will focus on the Devil's Bridge.
Unfortunately, the three days we had for rest flew away in an instant and we had to take the long way home. My friend and I had heard about the Devil's Bridge and decided we could not miss the opportunity to visit it. The bridge is located near the village of Latinka and was almost on our way. The bridge itself is located over the river Arda and has withstood storms for centuries.
The place is extremely easy to reach. From the locals I learned that with a jeep or a higher car you can get to the bridge itself. However, we decided to leave the car on the asphalt road and walk. The weather was great and the walk was extremely pleasant and so we managed to enjoy the full beauty of the place.
Arriving at the bridge we saw that we are not the only ones who decided to enjoy its beauty. There were many people, even foreigners, which was a big surprise for me. The fame of the bridge had reached a young family of tourists from Russia who seemed very excited by the experience.
The bridge itself was extremely impressive. Built entirely of stone with its over 50 meters long and about 3 meters wide, it is located in a gorge and surrounded by steep almost vertical slopes. According to what I know and have read, the construction of the bridge dates back to the 15th-16th century.
Behind the construction of the bridge lies an exceptional legend that I will try to tell you briefly. Legend has it that the master who built the bridge made a deal with Satan and promised the devil to reveal a secret that will make his creation forever. The condition was that the construction was ready in 40 days, otherwise the devil would take the soul of the young master. Although the man coped with the task, he died shortly after the construction of the bridge, taking the secret to the grave.
Some people say that in the bridge is sealed the face of Satan who appears looking centrally at the bridge and its reflection in the waters of the river.
