The Guest House
"This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.
Be grateful for whatever comes.
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond."
This morning upon opening my email i saw this poem in an advertisement email from de-mystifying mind.
I usually don't open advert email but today somehow i open this and while scrolling down, this poem 'The Guest House' caught my attention.
It was stated in the email that:
"This poem is by the remarkable 13th century Iranian poet, Rumi.
This poem encourages its readers is an attitude of acceptance, fortitude, and gratitude in the face of difficulty and suffering. This poem points us towards compassion for the self and others.
If you’re experiencing difficulties perhaps you will find this supportive?"
I do find this poem very inspiring thus sharing what i read in the email, hopefully it benefit you too.
