The Real Problem is How we Choose to Use AI: Technology Reflects the Hands That Hold it.
I have seen a lot of content raising concerns about artificial intelligence , many people are calling for strict regulations on artificial intelligence , and this is because of how many people now abuse the power of artificial intelligence, they now use it to create explicit images and videos that could damage the reputation of a person, especially well known people and I believe the developer of artificial intelligence are genuinely concerned about this abuse, but this calls for a response to an important question, is artificial intelligence really an enemy or the people who abuse the technology? To be really honest, I believe artificial intelligence isn't an enemy, it's those who abuse artificial intelligence that I consider the real enemies. Technology doesn't exist to create harm, it's the people that use it to create harm.
The impact and creation of artificial intelligence all depends on how we humans decide to use it, we send a command, and it delivers, it only responds and gives us what we want.
Students, researchers, field workers, and business owners use AI to do many important things, it could be to understand what they are doing and gain clarity in different fields because they want it to do so, and someone else misuses it to create explicit pictures and videos to implicate others, what does this tell? It's obvious that it's about how we use this technology, and not the technology itself.
I believe when someone deliberately abuses the use of Ai, I believe it's the decision of that person to use it wrongly, there are many positive and creative things Ai can do and their decisions to deliberately humiliate, impersonate or even sexually objectify a person shows that they are the real enemy and not the technology.
This doesn't eliminate the fact that Ai companies need to place a restriction or safeguard against abuse, the developers shouldn't give access to protect the identity of people, stop the abuse and humiliation , they shouldn't make it so easy for people to generate content like that and the government would need a law to address this act, there should be a punishment especially when a person's identity, dignity, privacy, or safety is deliberately violated.
Also, apart from artificial intelligence, many other technologies face criticism too, because of how people abuse them , the internet is one of them, it has many usefulness, helps to inform, educate and entertain people and yet people find a way to harass others using the Internet. Also, the smartphone, which is one of the useful technologies of our time that has made communication easy for everyone regardless of distance, many people now use it to defraud, spread false information and many other harmful things. So why blame artificial intelligence? Just like every other technology, it's also abused and used wrongly. The real villain, to me, is the people abusing artificial intelligence and not artificial intelligence.
Instead of calling artificial intelligence the enemy, we should focus on responsible use, accountability, and appropriate safeguards.
We should make sure people begin to understand that having the technological ability to generate and create things with your phone or laptop, does not automatically make it acceptable to do, there should be a restriction.
The fact is that artificial intelligence keeps getting better and more powerful by the day, that's why a strict regulation needs to be created, we should begin to hold those who abuse artificial intelligence accountable for their actions, and encourage the developers to make the system safer too.
AI is powerful, but not the enemy, a problem caused by human behavior shouldn't make us label a technology as useful as AI an enemy.
