I didn't find out about the ninjamine and how Steem began until months after I joined Steemit. When I did understand the massive stake they held, I described it as a golden parachute they could ride off into the sunset on in the event that just happened that stake was purchased by someone like Goldman Sachs, George Soros, or ZuckerBorg. Turned out to be Sun Yuchen, but for the same purpose Goolag would have had: to censor our community.

I wasn't convinced initially Sun was a censor, because I knew nothing about him. Well, I know now. But Sun isn't the point, because there are an almost unlimited number of wannabe censors that could do what he did. The actual problem isn't that stake was originally mined, or that it was sold to Sun, or that stake isn't equitably distributed - because stake isn't credibly capable of being equitably distributed. Communists are simply deluded.

The only practical mechanism that can address this susceptibility to Sybil attack DPoS features is how governance is effected. IRL inequity in distribution of every form of money potentiates oligarchical centralization of pure DPoS governance mechanisms. Therefore some modification of DPoS governance mechnism is necessary to enable Hive to be immune to the takeover that was successfully prosecuted on Steem.

Currently governance of Hive is demonstrably oligarchical, practically a hegemony (if not actually) maintained by the most substantial whales extant. That is presently preferable to Sun Yuchen's sole option to effect governance of Steem, because our present overlords have demonstrated benevolent tyranny - not because they aren't tyrants.

This is the same situation that existed on Steem prior to the sale to Sun Yuchen. Only the restraint of @ned prevented the arbitrary governance of Steem by @ned. Only the restraint of @freedom and those few whales that presently possess nominal stake to exercise governance of Hive at their sole option enables censorship resistance of Hive right now.

Sooner or later that stake will change hands, and that restraint will be subject to new overlords. Sooner or later, under the present governance of Hive, what happened to Steem will happen to Hive.

If we want to prevent that from happening, we need to do what is necessary to govern Hive in a way that prevents stake alone from effecting governance. Mathematically, stake alone can not be prevented from becoming nominally centralized.
