Today we are gonna talk about cheating.
In case, you lost yesterday's topic you can still find it here
Once upon a time, cheating was defined only as a physical affair in which two people engaged in sexual activities outside their primary relationship. Today, things have changed.Infidelity or cheating, ranges from emotional to physical, and it is viewed as a modern tendency that differentiates depending the person and the relationship .
Most people believe infidelity is unacceptable, yet 30-40% of people engage in it. Infidelity can lead to depression, domestic violence, divorce, even homicide. However, considering these negative effects, why do people cheat? And is the phrase “once a cheater, always a cheater” true?
Yet most of us agree that sex with another person constitutes infidelity, is going out for a dinner with somebody considered as cheating? What about sexy chat sessions with strangers online?
Researchers have identified a few factors that lead to higher or lower chances of being unloyal:
People that are unsatisfied in their relationship often are driven to cheating. Researchers have found that partnerships characterized by dissatisfaction, unfulfilling sex, and high conflict are at higher risk for infidelity. Also, the more dissimilar partners are—in terms of personality, education level, and other factors—the more likely they are to experience infidelity.
A person might not have a personality prone to cheating, plus he/her can have a great relationship with somebody, but something unexpected happens into their environment that puts them at risk for infidelity. Temptation is the biggest enemy of relationships. For example, hanging out a lot with attractive people can make cheating more likely. The nature of a person’s employment is also related to infidelity—individuals whose work involves touching other people, having personal discussions, or a great deal of one-on-one time are more likely to have an affair.
Only 3 % of mammals are monogamous, meaning they stay with one partner their whole life .Humans fall into these category. But somehow extra pair mating or cheating is considered a fairly common behavior. The human dopamine receptor gene plays a key role in cheating for men and women.Sometimes the so called ‘’happy hormone’’ is released after pleasurable activities like exercise, eating food and orgasming. One study found that 50% of people who possess the long allele variant of this gene had cheated on their partner, compared to only 22% of people who have the short allele.
Men and women consider different things as cheating. Most men feel sexual cheating is worse while most women feel emotional cheating is worse.Women are more likely than men to see behaviors as passionately kissing somebody else as cheating .
85 % of affairs start in the workplace. If you think about it,daily interaction and working on common projects leads to strong bonds and sometimes affectionate attachments.
Also, social media lead to more cheating. The rise of social media has paralleled a rise in infidelity as people connect more with each other and the amount of affairs increases.
Believe it or not, after a lot of researh, scientists came to the conclusion that the most common day to cheat was Wednesday.
In conclusion, cheating isn't always as it looks. For many people out there,it's a habit they can't control while for others it's just a moment of weakness .Nevertheless, cheating can be avoided if people communicate more and have a better understanding of their relationship.
