The individual has always struggled not to be absorbed into the tribe. If you try, you will often be alone and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high for the privilege of being yourself.
During those nights I could feel that cold; a wet caress, a lick on my neck. She would sit beside me while I was sunk in my lethargy. My heart would freeze, but my senses were dormant. I felt his breath on my cheek; it was icy and languid, and it ruffled my hair with a shiver. My lower lip throbbed, it wanted to fall away from my mouth. Sometimes I didn't feel the bed, only the cold that accompanied me. I felt like I was levitating on transparent powders, oppressive in softness.
Finally, she dropped her fangs on my neck, it hurt at first but became pleasurable later. It was like ejaculating; an ecstasy, an orgasm. I felt the blood spill onto the white sheets. A bloodcurdling sigh announced the end of that abominable act. I could open my eyes, but I did not want to, for I refused to contemplate the possible horrible aspect of my visitor.
A howl of pleasure broke free from her throat. The moonlight caressed my face. I wanted to scream, to sigh, to moan; to utter any sound with my mouth, a cry for help would have been a sour rant of relief.
Her hand slid over my arm, took her leave pausing on my bleeding neck. It felt rough and scratchy, like the skin of a dead body. Her breath radiated no scent. That's when I trembled, surrendered to fear, and opened my eyes sharply.
Suddenly it was daylight, I glimpsed panickedly around me, but no one was there. I stroked my neck, I felt no pain at all. "Was it a nightmare?", I thought doubtfully, however, I was still disturbed by that vivid experience.
I decided to go to the bathroom to wash my face, I tried to think about the occupations that awaited me later. I rubbed my eyes with the water to look at myself in the mirror, but, to my horrible surprise, no reflection! Not a glimpse, not a shadow, nothing! I took several steps back in panic, took a good look at my hands, and noticed that they were more consumed.
I went to the window to get some fresh air, but the sunlight hurt me; it burned me and pierced my skin. Suddenly, I hid in the shadows of a corner, waiting for the daylight to fade away.
Hours passed and I began to have aberrant thoughts: people, howls of pain, spilled blood. Oh, how I longed for even a drop of blood on my tongue! A piece of fresh flesh! The shudder of panic between my lips! I longed to hunt, to cut off, to set sail, to consume. My soul burned in a bonfire of cravings.
Evening came and my appearance was less human. My ears become pointed and my face elongates. My teeth grow and become piercing like knife points. All my skin turns pale and my hands stretch out becoming lanky and gnarled. I still struggle with hunger and anxiety. My gasps become cloudy. My blood boils and foams. My drool runs down my jaw escaping my mouth uncontrollably. The pain disappears, and little by little I find relief.
Finally, the night comes, and my ears, now more developed, perceive murmurs that call my name. I get up from that corner that has been my shelter back then. I look out the window, the moon seems to smile at me. I brutally break through the glass to answer the call of my own.
On the roof of an old and ominous house, I meet again my creator. The enormity of her wings warns of great power. She smiles, revealing her fangs, the hook of her body attracts me and I walk hesitantly to her. "Now you are mine, mine and of the night," she says in my ear. "Feed beloved, drink the blood that saw you born..." Then she exhibited her neck before my eyes, and I without thinking bit it with all my might.
That night we danced in a frenzied whirl of lust. Her wings wrapped around me like two huge Argentinian sheets. Our silvery bodies were drenched in saliva and blood. The delirious rage dominated us until we were completely satiated. Ah..., it was like being born again...!
Since then the night has been my mantle, and my engine, my desires. I am the owner of the necks of Manhattan and its vital liquid. I am the face that slips through the windows of young girls when the moon is at its highest peak. I do not let screams of pain escape the bounds of my hunt, but, if you should hear a moan in the middle of the night, pray to whomever you please that I do not come after you.
THE END
