«Enthusiasm is the daily bread of youth. Skepticism, the daily wine of old age».

SAMUEL

Samuel's cries could be heard all over the house. My ears could no longer bear so much pain, Oh but what a dreadful calamity befell my poor little brother! I should have warned him several days ago.

It happened a week ago when Samuel began to manifest several signs of alienation. The first to notice it was me, then my sister and my mother. My little brother was getting lost for no reason, he spoke in other languages that according to the priests, were dead languages.

At times his look changed and urged to panic and disaster, at the beginning all that I have told you had been sporadic; once a day at most, but after three days from its beginning, Samuel did nothing but worsen.

We felt alone and unprotected. We lived in a cabin away from town with no neighbors around. My mother was a skeptical woman so at first she never thought it was a supernatural situation, so she called Dr. William to examine him.

The doctor checked my brother who was passed out in his bed, and things took a turn for the worse from there. Samuel let out an absolutely unnatural bellow. The lights in the house flickered and the mirrors shattered from the intensity. My mother's heart felt like it was going to burst out of her chest, and even more so when she saw my brother levitating with bloodshot eyes.

Dr. William, frightened, called the village priest, Father Damien, to perform the exorcism. They performed it on the night of the sixth day. My sister and I were nervous but no worse than my mother. The priest came defiantly into the room with an assistant. We were all evicted, we waited tremulously in the room.

We heard screams, angry prayers and violent blows. The light from the lamps intensified, as if they were about to explode. The floor trembled. Vermin crawled out and began to peck at our toes.

In a brutal rush, the door to Samuel's room opened. Leaping out, he glared at us with eyes of demon rage. He grabbed one of the knives from the kitchen and quickly went out the front door. The priest, his assistant and the rest of us went after him, finding a grotesque scene.

We found him on the bank of a river. In a pool of blood. With his throat open and his eyes almost gouged out of their sockets.

THE END
