This past weekend was out firearm season and I finally got to try it out about 30 min after first light a solitary doe arrived about 50 yards out after watching her mill about toward me for about 15 min she finally presented me with a clean shot about 30 yards away so I settled the sight in and let a shot ring out she only made it about 40 yds and was down within sight the only reason she made it that far was because she stumbled down hill.
I continued to sit for the next few hrs letting many smaller bucks and several does pass by anywhere between 10and 60 yards away hoping to fill my last tag with a big one. I finally decided to get down to check out my doe and after thanking her I decided to walk back and get my 4 wheeler so I could pack her out
Once I reached the top of the hill I cought movement out of the corner of my eye down in the bottoms... I froze as I watched a young doe sneak through the bottoms. I thought to myself if this deer gets close I will take her too and be done because the weather coming in wasn't going to be good for the rest of our 3 day season.
Finally she popped out on top of the hill less than 10 yds away and it was that time that I took her she didn't even know what hit her was dead right where she stood so I lowered my pistol and got out my camera. You can see her and my first doe in the background.
Nothing will be wasted on these deer and not only will they provide my family with protein but they will always be special trophies in my mind because these are the first of hopefully many where I used my homemade firearm and home rolled ammo.
