When you later publish a post, you can select whether you want to publish it in your blog or in the community you just joined (or other communities).

It is quite incredible, but Hive (and Steem) has turned more and more into community blogging, meaning that a large amount of posts are now published in the communities and not on the "personal blogs" of all the people. Not that complicated really :)
