20-something years ago I had a model kit for a plane. It was the low tech kind, where you had just paper outlines that you had to glue on to pieces of cardboard you had to source yourself. I was really excited to put it together, so excited I started cutting up the pieces before I had the cardboard. One thing lead to another, I lost parts of the internal frame of the left wing, I couldn't find the propeller and eventually the entire thing went missing, as things did back then. Had a little peddle car too, it got stolen right from the yard, so we strung up metal wires around the place that wouldn't be visible at night. They weren't barbed or anything, but they'd make noise and tangle up thieves. But that's not relevant to today's story, it's just something you got used to with growing up on the outskirts of a city.
But I still wanted to build a model one day. I actually started to build a plane out of matchsticks. This one didn't get stolen, but it was mistreated by others and, well, this is all that's left of it. Its remains are being guarded by Geralt of Paper.
So, anyway. Fast forward many many years to this afternoon, I was going around, shopping for Christmas presents for a nephew and came across this.
Sure, it's not a fully accurate model, but more a puzzle type for children of 3 years or older, but I got it anyway. I could finally afford it, thanks to all the money I've made on Steemit in the past month. My dream finally achieved, to assemble a model and have it mounted on a shelf somewhere, looking at it, remembering fondly the effort of building it and enjoying to look at it every day.
Until someone inevitably drops it and steps on it, again. But this time I have a plan.
For you see, this only cost 9 bucks. And I made at least twice that on Steemit after the crypto-crash yesterday. So next month, I'm going to get another one.
And so one, each month, until they'll be so many of them that no one will be able to destroy them all by accident. If they want to do it, they'll have to put in some effort and that's when I'll catch them in the act!
And then! Well, then! Then I'll ask them to stop, mom.
Now, all that's left is to find a way to not step on it by mistake myself.
