Hey hive friends and the ocd community This is the Orb-weaver spider I photographed this afternoon. These spiders build webs among the grass on the banks of the river in the forest where I live. As you can see this spider is wrapping its web around its prey (I think it's a grasshopper) and wrapping it in a silk web.
The Orb-weaver spider is a member of the Araneidae family. It is large, has eight eyes, spiked legs, and except for its fat belly, no other organs are more prominent.
The Orb-weaver spider makes a web in the shape of a spiral wheel. The net is not only a place to live, but also serves as a trap for its prey.
What's unique about Orb-weaver is that these spiders don't have to leave their webs to find prey. All he did was wait to see if an insect hit a cobweb and got stuck there.
