As a student I have come across many subjects and courses in schools, both elementary and higher institutions but in all the best subject I love so dearly and will wish to tutor in school or to my children is home economics...
But before I go on in explaining it's benefits I will like to explain a little about this subject and what makes it one of the most interesting Subject to study.
Home economics is a subject that is regarded or seen as a domestic science that talks or explain more on personal hygiene, cooking, textile, morals, creativity, skills, proper management of our resources and alot more! When I was in JSS 3 any time we are having the subject I'm always filled with enthusiasm and also yearning to learn more about the subject and I was doing well with high scores in my test and exams.
Home economics and it's benefits
As a mother of one. The things that draw me closer to this subject is how to manage my home properly in terms of keeping my environment clean, we all know that improper hygiene can cause diseases. Such as Poor sanitation in our environment brings alot of mosquitoes that causes sickness like malaria. Improper hygiene or lack of proper practice of hygiene has polluted our water therefore causing typhoid which I wrote here on how I suffered monthly on malaria & typhoid sickness.
home economics will teach you better on how to eat healthy and nutritious foods, it also inculcate you on how to prevent eating harmful foods that are dangerous to our health.
The subject create skills awareness in society which will frees individuals from financial problems and future challenges. Through the skills they learnt it also prevent poverty, crime high rates and prevent ladies in involving themselves to prostitution...
Home economics educate individuals on how to manage and economize their finances and resources saving them from unnecessary spending.
The subject is good in educating good moral values on respecting our elders, parent, teachers and individuals in our society. It shape us on how good we should behave or relate with one and another,
Home economics teaches us on how to form a good relationships in our society, Especially when it come to family in order to become a well manner citizens.
I remembered vividly, when I was in JSS 3 how our class home economics tutor, taught us on how to make clothes but we used paper, thread and needles to practice how to stitch clothes. We were taught on how to measure sizes, length, shape, cut and sew clothes it was fun and we all made some for ourselves we went home showed it to our loved ones and they were happy with us, we came back the next day in school and share how excited our families are.
As a student I learnt alot back then in school and as a mother it feels good that I practice and apply the things I have learn in my day to day activities apart from that, to also inculcate everything I learnt to my children especially in terms of proper hygiene to our body and environment. The subject will teach you how to eat right and also in making tasty and nutritious meals and how to spend wisely.
