It was dark, as Fred was walking home from work on a different route to his house. He didn't want to follow his usual route because of how busy it was, and he needed to clear his head after a very stressful day. As a company accountant, he had to make sure all financial records are up-to-date and accurate. That meant he had to make sure the company's financial needs were fixed all the time.
The route he took home was a shortcut to a subway station since he had left his car parked at the company's park.
The street lights were bright enough to light up the road. It was quiet as vehicles kept driving past at top speed. Few people were on the road, some were standing at some strategic point waiting for what's known to them, while some kept walking to their various destinations.
Fred was tired and stressed out. He had to work from 6 am to 9 pm, doing the same thing, which was boring, perhaps a break would help reshape his psyche, but the company had refused to approve his request for leave.
He walked home quickly as he thought of his fiancee, how she always complained about his job, stress and insisted for him to quit. Just as he was pondering on his thoughts. He heard footsteps behind him, the footsteps were coming closer, as he turned, he saw two men. One of them was staring at a tree and the other was busy knotting his shoelace. So he continued walking, but the footsteps kept coming closer, he turned again to know what's going on. But this time both men were staring at the sky and that made them suspicious.
Those signs made Fred security conscious, he kept walking. But the footsteps were coming closer, then Fred decided to run, but that was too late they rushed at him and pointed a gun at his waist. One of them held a pocket knife and the other had his middle finger to the trigger of the gun.
“Do you think you can run faster than a bullet? Uh!” one of them asked.
Fred could hardly see their face because of the darkness but he would be able to describe their features. The man with the gun was in a black suit and had a scarf around his neck with two black cotton-like hand gloves in both hands. Judging by his voice and stature. He should be in his early 30s. The other guy held a pocket knife, a rough blond hair with a skinny body. He was tall and white in complexion. His voice was shaky with frightening maybe that was his first time, perhaps he was an amateur with the way he kept jerking the knife.
“Help!!! Please.” Fred shouted
“ Shut up. No one can help you.” The amateur guy yelled at Fred, as he brought the knife closer to his stomach.
“What do you want? Take my wallet, please and let me go. Please.”
Just as he mentioned that he remembered, he needed money to pay for the train ticket. He couldn't let them have all the money and his debit card. He‘ll be stranded. So he battled with them and accidentally Fred shot one of them on the stomach. That scared the other one, so he ran away. Leaving the other guy to die.
“Oh My God!! What have I done?“ Fred was shocked and scared, as he dropped the gun to the ground and ran away. He got home, still in shock, trying to figure out what to do. “ I just shot a man”
He ran to his bedroom, and started packing some clothes. He needed to run, just then he heard a knock on the door.
“Mr Fred, are you in there? This is the police.”
The End
