From afar I saw you
At the height of your beauty
Radiating your red colour,
A symbol of friendship and love

Thinking of your soothing scent
I stepped forward to savour it but,
Was reminded of some lessons of life

The sharp thorns around you,
Inflicted pain to my finger and said,
"Life is not all a bed of roses"

Though your vibrancy typifies life,
Your withered neighbour,
Standing by your side whispered,
"Beauty in life is for a period
"It'll be gone in time"

Next was an unattractive branch,
A ghost of another fellow of your kind
That's not just withered but,
No more at its position,
The branch whispered too,
"Life and beauty are for a time".

Now, I tell you my beautiful rose,
"Shine the best you can
Shine with your whole life because,
Life is for a time".
