I made a new friend yesterday called masterpiz@masterpiz. He made a very inspiring post on Steemit on how is is trying to help many of his fellow students in college improve their life by making content on the platform. There is no denying that access to the internet not only widens horizons and improves life quality of it’s users but it also is a major force in political and social change. It helps us crawl out of our boxes and opens us up to a larger world community. In the more developed nations we often do not think twice about the actual privilege we have being able to get one and liberally use the internet. Even people with extremely limited funds like myself usually have internet be it over a smart phone or a computer. Most of us also upgrade their tech as soon as they can discarding the old fully functional tech as worthless. We are, in general, a lot more wasteful in the West then our counterparts in the third world and/or less developed nations. We are generally also and also a lot less tankful for the stuff we have and feel more entitled.

Masterpiz lives in Nigeria where having a laptop pretty much makes you an ice skating Unicorn in the desert. Most who have internet use smart phones and there are a large percentage of students that just cannot afford to get one. So in a conversation last night we came up with an idea what if people who were going to shelf or throw away their tech(old laptops and smartphones) were to send it to third world nations to help students gain access to the information and discussion pool.

As I have said a few times before in my posts here Steemit and other blockchains have so much more untapped power and are potentially just so much more than then just up voting content and raking in money, if we allow them to be. we can fund support and develop projects like this and in any thinkable field. We as a digital community have tools in hands here to create real lasting change on a free platform unencumbered by the greedy and corrupt powers that rule our nations.
It is up to us, we can do this one project and creation at the time. Don’t be lured in by the superficially shiny and ruin this platform with our greed lets change the world for the better with it and make money while doing so , it is not mutually exclusive you know - at least not here. As is this is just one of hopefully many more ideas and I hope people will support us in this.

The first test of this concept would start in Nigeria at masterpiz’s School. people would send their tech there in “care of” the school and the school would distribute the tech at no charge to students and people of the region who apply. We do not have all the logistics in place yet as this is a brand new baby idea, we are looking into cell phone frequencies, customs and people willing to help with the logistics of the project. We would be thankful for any ideas people have please leave them in the comment section.
