My Actifit Report Card: August 20 2023 || Getting Ready For My Birds Arrival || Life Of A Poultry Farmer
It was a very busy Sunday for me as I was actually doing everything necessary before my birds arrived to my pen. I talked about how my last batch of my broiler birds caused some damages to my pen and how I tried to fixed it, disinfecting and clean up in my last post regarding my broilers bird and you can check here to know more details.
Like I said earlier that Sunday is actually a busy day for me as I was preparing my pen for the arrival of my birds which I have ordered for yesterday and they will surely arrive exactly on Monday morning.
After fixing, disinfecting and cleaning my bird's pen, the next thing for me to do in my pen before they arrive is to prepare the bedding. Bedding is very important in poultry farm business as it helps to give warmth to the birds, a good absorbent of water and help to bring comfort to the birds.
Regarding preparing my birds bedding, I usually used sawdust, though there are other materials that can be used for bedding such as wood shave, recycled papers, straw, rice hulls and so much more. But the most common bedding material which I can easily get in my area is the sawdust since sawmill is not far from my place.
At the early morning of the day, I went to the sawmill to my pack some sawdust with the help of my wife. It takes a while before we could filled up all the sack I took along with the sawdust because I believe that packing the sawdust in large quantity is the best way to reduce the cost and stress of going to the sawmill often. Because it's on Sunday, a work free day, sawmill look so empty since no one is at work and I take my time to take some pictures especially this cutting machine that look so sharp.
After me and my wife are done bagging the sawdust in the sawmill, I order for a tricycle which carry all the bags of sawdust including me and my wife to our door step. I don't waste any time to prepare my birds bedding immediately I got home, though the first thing I did when I got home is arranging the sawdust in the sacks in to a safe place in my compound and after that I prepared the bedding straight away.
I actually took some pictures while laying the bedding and it look so much comfortable. By this time of tomorrow, I believe my birds would have been roaming around in the pen. That's exactly how my day went and I will be updating you when my birds arrive at my pen tomorrow.
