It was a long night duty call for me at my broiler birds cage. I cleaned the cage less than a week ago and before I went to work in the morning I discovered that everywhere is messed up again. I know that since I can't made a big space for the birds then I will have to face the consequences as they keep on growing up. My birds are seven weeks old today and they have already occupied almost all the space in the cage.
On my return back from work this evening, I went to my birds cage to check on them and while doing so I can't stand the odour coming out from the cage. Broiler birds are easily prone to diseases especially when they are in dirty environment. I am already tired but what can I do. My birds are still on treatment for (CRD) chronic respiratory diseases that has not been properly cured so to avoid another forthcoming diseases I have to clean the cage.
I packed all the birds outside of the cage and started the cleaning right away. I scrubbed off the feces with a hand trowel and while doing so I discovered maggots are already in the feces. I used broom to sweep all the remaining feces and packed them out inside a sack. Then I have to lay their bed with the sawdust and filled their drinkers and feeders. Then when am done, I started putting them back in the cage one after the other. It was so stressful for me but I have to do it to prevent a massive loss.
