Hello Hives,
There was a time when I could spend a lot of time thinking about things that had already happened or worrying about things that had not even happened yet. Sometimes, I would replay a conversation in my head and wonder if I had said the wrong thing. At other times, I would think about a problem so much that I became more worried instead of finding a solution.
But as I grow and experience life, I am learning not to allow overthinking to control ir take over me.
I have realized that thinking deeply about a problem is not always bad. Sometimes, it helps us make better decisions. The problem starts when thinking turns into constant worrying. When I keep asking myself, “What if this happens?” or “What if I had done things differently?”, I am simply using today's energy to fight yesterday or tomorrow.
I don't want to live that way.
Whenever I notice myself thinking too much about something I cannot change, I try to remind myself that some things are simply beyond my control. I cannot change the past, and I cannot completely predict the future. What I can do is focus on what is in front of me and make the best decision I can with the knowledge I have.
I also try to take action instead of sitting around thinking about the same problem repeatedly. Sometimes, the solution becomes clearer when we start doing something about the situation. Even a small step can bring more peace than spending hours worrying.
Another thing that helps me is accepting that life will never be perfect. Problems will come. Plans will fail. People will disappoint us. We will make mistakes. That is part of being human. I don't have to understand everything immediately, and I don't have to have all the answers today.
When I make a mistake, I try to learn from it rather than punish myself with endless thoughts. When something goes wrong, I ask myself what I can do differently next time and then keep moving.
For me, peace of mind is becoming more important than having every situation figured out. I want to enjoy the present, appreciate the people around me, work towards my goals, and leave tomorrow in God's hands.
Overthinking may knock on my door sometimes, but I don't have to invite it in.
I choose to think, learn, act, pray, and move forward. I refuse to let overthinking take over me.
