Traveling down from our respective states, the school campus is meant to serve as home throughout our duration of study, or until we can at least find our feet.
This hasn’t been the case at the university of uyo, we have been utterly failed by the Nigerian Federal Government along with the School Authorities. We lack basic amenities like constant electricity, reliable water supply, good lightening systems and worst of all security.
On Sunday at about 8:00pm while in school reading, I was robbed, lost my phone (I’m currently phoneless) and some other valuables including my notes, that same night the girls hostel at the permanent site was also broken, phones and laptops were carted off.
This isn’t the first time this is happening; a similar occurrence took place about this time last year on the 12th of February when students studying was robbed; valuables were stolen in mass and the exams had to be postponed.
It’s sad that things are gradually getting out of hand and the relevant authorities are doing nothing about it. We no longer feel safe within our school environs, where then do we go when our school campus no longer serves its basic functions and the authorities are doing nothing about it.
