Supporting a Growing Cactus馃尩
Many species of cactus are hearty, and one that grows naturally is extremely vulnerable to the elements and wildlife.
Cactuses take a while to grow, and this one showed up this Summer. It had been damaged by some wildlife and I needed to prune off a damaged arm.
Gardening with cactuses always involves support. Cactuses are often unstable and require wooden support sticks or pruning. The arm had been damaged, so care was taken. This was a delicate operation.
If you see a cactus growing, surround it in mesh and keep it protected from animals. Wildlife can trample these or may try to get some rare water in the desert from them. As a Gardner, you won't need to augment the soil with nutirents. Make sure it gets plenty of Sun and is protected.
