Time to show off another silver piece! Couldn't decide which one to pick, so I let luck choose this one and pulled out a random coin from my stack.
And the lucky one turns out to be a funny one too! A 1 Pengo coin from 1926. Now this is a relatively simple piece from Hungary:
As you can see, on the one side we have the denomination along with some oak & olive Branches. Here's some info about the Pengo if you are like me and don't know much about it. And no, it has nothing to do with penguins:
The pengő (Hungarian: [ˈpɛŋɡøː]; sometimes written as pengo or pengoe in English) was the currency of Hungary between 1 January 1927, when it replaced the korona, and 31 July 1946, when it was replaced by the forint. The pengő was subdivided into 100 fillér.
The Hungarian participle pengő means 'ringing' (which in turn derives from the verb peng, an onomatopoeic word equivalent to English 'ring') and was used from the 15th to the 17th century to refer to silver coins making a ringing sound when struck on a hard surface source
On the other side we have the Hungarian cost of arms along with the minting date.
The edge is pretty plain too, with some random (I think) imprintings
When it comes to silver, it's nothing special, 5 g of .640 purity, so we have 3.2 g of silver per coin
This is my first and only (for now) silver Hungarian piece. Hopefully future ones will be sexier and less boring 😆
