Floral Abstract Variety.
The three images below have been created by using digital manipulation to my original photos.
Foxgloves:
Digitalis is commonly called Foxglove and it is a genus of approximately 20 species of herbaceous perennials, shrubs and biennials. Originally these plants were part of the figwort family but recent phylogenetic research have now categorized it as belonging to the Plantaginaceae family.
Foxglove is native to western and southwestern Europe, western and central Asia and north western Africa. Digitalis derived its name from the ease of which the tip of a human finger can fit into an individual flower.
They are characterized by their tall tubular shaped flowers which grow from a tall spike and are available in colours of purple, pink, white and yellow. The most common species is the foxglove, Digitalis purpurea and it is grown for its ornamental value due to their vivid colours.
Various marks and spottings on the flowers add interesting texturized appeal and for the first year, only the long stem and basal leaves are produced. In the second year this long stem grows from 50 to 255 centimetres tall.
Digitalis is also used in drug preparations which include cardiac glycosides which are extracted for a variety of plants from this genus.
Begonias:
Begonia is a genus of perennial flowering plants in the Begoniaceae family. They are just one of 1,795 species which thrive in sub-tropical and tropical climates. Charles Plumier, the French botanist, gave these plants their name. As much as these flowers love the warmer climates, not many will tolerate full sun. Most begonias are tender and will only survive mild winters. In cool climates, some are grown as summer annuals. Others as house plants and the tuberous species are removed and stored during the winter months.
They are easily propagated by stem cuttings or by dividing them from the roots. There are a wide variety of colours available and many cultivars can have multiple layers making them a very attractive option for gardens.
The colourful, showy petunias are divided into two groups. Grandiflora Petunias are the larger of the two and do well in hanging baskets or containers as they are quite susceptible to rain damage. Muliflora Petunias are smaller, more abundant flowers. Petunias are heat tolerant and need at least 5 hours of sun per day. They also grow well in low humidity and moist soil and are grown from seeds or transplanted easily.
Petunia is a genus of 35 species and originate from South America, and part of the Solanaceae family. They are herbaceous plants and the flowers are funnel shaped with their petals joined together. Petunias are available in a wide range of colour. The Carpet series make a wonderful ground cover and the Sugar Daddy variety are the deep purple petunias with dark veins running through the petals. And the Rose Star variety are pink striped with white centres.
THANK YOU FOR VIEWING. HAVE A GREAT DAY.
