'Pony Tail Trees.'
(This is my entry for the weekly #treetuesday challenge organized by @old-guy-photos)
The botanical name for the Ponytail Palm is Beaucarnea Recurvata and is also known as Noilna Recurvata and N. Tuberculata The common reference is ‘Elephants Foot Tree’ for obvious reasons with the base of their thick trunks swelling considerably. This part of the trunk can grow up to 3 metres (10’ ) in diameter.
The trunk tapers towards the top and then branches out with individual branches being supported by a dense crown of long, strappy leaves. These trees are dioecious which means that the male and female reproductive parts are on separate plants.
Ponytail Palms produce a mass of small white flowers in summer followed by impressive looking stems of pink tinged 3-winged seeds on the mature female plants.
The unique shape of these Ponytail Palm trees suited the digital edit I chose for them and eccentuated thier charateristics.
THANK YOU FOR VIEWING. HAVE A GREAT DAY.
