Bird of Paradise Flowers
Bird of Paradise. These flowers were named due to their uncanny resemblance to birds of paradise. Their brightly plumed flowers attached to long, strong stems look like colourful birds playing hide n seek amongst their large veined green leaves
They are commonly known as Crane Flowers and Strelitzia is their botanical name and they are native to South Africa. The Bird of Paradise plants are the floral emblem of the city of Los Angeles. They are hardy and capable of withstanding both drought and frosty conditions.
The beauty the bird of paradise plants make them a favourite choice for many gardeners around the world.
The three main types of Strelitzia are:
Strelitzia Reginae This one is the most recognisable and popular variety. They are characterised by their striking orange blue combination of colours and have broad, dark green leaves, but in drier climates these leaves take on a silvery grey tinge. They thrive in lush environments and clump together but need plenty of water. They grow up to 1.5 meters tall and roughly about 1 metre wide.
Strelitzia Nicolai This variety grows from 4 to 6 metres tall. They have more of a dramatic appearance with fewer extra large leaves. They are a similar shape to the Reginae variety but are dark blue and white in colour.
I liked the concrete wall behind this Bird of Paradise Flower and decided to add a complimentary frame around the edge to enhance its vibrant colours.
THANK YOU FOR VIEWING. HAVE A GREAT DAY.
