I remember Dune II on Sega Genesis and Starcraft hitting the Nintendo 64 but not the Sega Genesis. Both are quite similar in how they were supposed to play. I never played Starcraft on console, I did play Dune II, or Dune Battle for Arrakis in North America.
Dune II was actually good. It was simple and challenging. It was clear that the developers were invested in Dune II playing well, unlike what I hear happened with Starcraft.
Have you looked into Steam? They have a Linux client and it shows you all the games available for Linux in their store. I have heard decent things about it. There is also WINE and other Windows interpreters that may give good compatibility results. The last time I messed with Linux, outside selling distros on USB/DVD's was probably 8 to 10 years ago. I was a SUSE Linux user myself, or OpenSUSE, whatever they called it.
